Ellen Cole, Ph.D.
Dr. Cole is Professor of Psychology at
Alaska Pacific University where she’s been a member of the faculty since
1995. Prior to that she held various academic positions at Prescott
College, in Arizona, and Goddard College, in Vermont. Dr. Cole is an
Alaska licensed psychologist and is certified as a sex therapist by the
American Association for Sex Educators, Counselors, and Therapists. A
Fellow of the American Psychological Association, she has been an active
member of APA for many years, most recently serving as chair of APA’s
Committee on Women in Psychology and Nominations and Elections chair for
Division 35, the Society for the Psychology of Women. With Dr. Linda
Webber, she has co-chaired AK-PA’s Ethics Committee since 1997.
For 12 years Dr. Cole co-edited the journal Women and Therapy and the
Haworth Press book program, “Innovations in Feminist Studies.” She is
the recipient of several professional awards, including a Distinguished
Publication Award from the Association for Women in Psychology (AWP),
two awards for Jewish scholarship from AWP’s Jewish caucus, and two
Faculty Merit Awards for research from Alaska Pacific University. Her
most recent writing project is a co-edited book, Featuring Females:
Feminist Analyses of Media, scheduled for publication by APA Books in
the spring of 2005.
She enjoys hiking, tennis, working out, kayaking, skiing on the APU
campus, and reading good and not-so-good fiction, especially mysteries
by women. She is also a wife, a Mom of four grown kids, and a
grandmother of nine.
