David Sandberg,
Ph.D.
Dr. David Sandberg has maintained a clinical practice in Alaska
since 1974. He was licensed as a Psychological Associate in 1977
and, after completing his Ph.D. in clinical psychology at the
Fielding Institute in 1994, he was licensed as a clinical
Psychologist. His dissertation was a study of therapist initiated
humor within a Redecision Psychotherapy context. He had the
privilege of working directly with the founders of Redecision
Psychotherapy, Bob Goulding, M.D. and Mary Goulding, M.S.W. on that
project.
Over the years he has trained extensively in a variety of
psychotherapeutic modalities including Redecision Psychotherapy,
Gestalt Therapy, Self Acceptance Training, Hypnotherapy, and Neo-Reichian
Body Therapy. He was trained in these areas by the Gouldings, John
McNeel Ph.D., Ellen Bader, Ph.D., Gene Kerfoot, Ph.D., Richard
Erskine, Ph.D. John Gladfelter, Ph.D., Richard Olney, and Paul
Soderburg, Ph.D.
In the last 15 years he has expanded his training experiences to
incorporate the use of the Enneagram in his clinical practice and
has traveled regularly to Brazil for Enneagram study. During this
time he has trained with a variety of trainers, most notably Claudio
Naranjo, M.D., Alaor Paseos of Brazil, and Sebastian Elsessar of
Germany.
His areas of psychotherapy interest include individual psychotherapy
with adolescents, adults, groups, and couples.
From time to time Dr. Sandberg also teaches at the University of
Alaska, Anchorage. Most recently he taught a class in Positive
Psychology after completing a 6 month training in Positive
Psychology with Martin Seligman, Ph.D.
In addition to his current position as President of
the Alaska Psychological Association, he is currently serving a 2
year term as member at large to the APA Committee of State Leaders.
