Carey Edney, Ph.D.

Carey has been licensed to practice psychology in the State of Alaska since 1985. A resident of Alaska since 1966, she travelled outside for graduate study, achieving her Master’s degree in Psychology at Portland State University, and her Ph.D. at Washington State University. After completing her doctoral internship at Alaska Psychiatric Institute, she entered private practice for several years, began inpatient practice with Dr. Patricia Patrick and later transitioned her practice to inpatient, residential and outpatient settings. She served two 4-year terms on the Psychology Licensing Board and twelve years on a hospital credentialing committee. Practice specialties include diagnostic psychological testing with children, adolescents and adults. Clinical administrative specialties include quality improvement, credentialing, peer review, licensure supervision, liability issues in supervision, risk management in mental and substance abuse practice, and healthcare accreditation. Carey currently works in community mental health with serious and persistently mentally ill adults and severely emotionally disturbed children, many with problems related to trauma, homelessness and dual diagnosis (mental health and substance abuse).
